In support of the U.S. Military, Melton signed the Employer Support of Guard and Reserve (ESGR) at the Transition Trucking Award presentation in Washington, D.C. In a joint effort with FASTPORT, Melton hopes to help veterans transition smoothly from the military to the trucking industry.
On behalf of Melton, Delaney Rea traveled to Washington, D.C. to sign the ESGR. By signing the ESGR, Melton pledges:
- To appreciate the values, leadership, and unique skills Service members bring to the company and encourage opportunities to employ Service members.
- To continually recognize and support our country’s Service members and their families in peace, in crisis, and in war.
- To fully recognize, honor, and comply with the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA)
- To fully provide our leaders with tools to effectively manage employees who serve in the Guard and Reserve
Rea also attended the Transition Trucking Award presentation. This award acknowledges veterans who have transferred from the military to the trucking industry. In an effort to curb the driver shortage and create immediate jobs for transitioning military personnel, the U.S Chamber of Commerce Foundation’s Hiring Our Heroes, Kenworth, and FASTPORT joined together to present the 2016 Transition Trucking: Driving for Excellence Award to a deserving veteran who has transitioned successfully to the trucking industry. The award recipient also received a Kenworth T-680 in recognition of their service.
During the trip Rea also observed the Pentagon Memorial and the wreath ceremony with Wreaths Across America. Wreaths are laid on each tombstone in recognition of the service of military men and women who have passed, and in honor of the families who will not have their soldier with them during the holidays. “Witnessing this display of affection and loss was one of the most moving experiences of my life; moreover, seeing transportation companies come together to deliver 1.2 million wreaths to cemeteries across the United States makes me proud to be part of an industry with such American spirit,” said Rea.
Currently, over 30% of Melton employees are Veterans or members of the Guard and Reserve. “We have found that the military culture and our company culture are linked with connection points that include the value of teamwork, discipline, dedication, and an adventurous spirit. With those shared values, Veterans are set up for incredible success with Melton, and we are excited to help them find their career with us,” said Bob Peterson, Melton Chairman and CEO.
Melton Truck Lines, a premiere flatbed carrier based in Tulsa, Oklahoma is currently searching for Veterans that are interested in driving for a stable company that truly cares about their drivers. Melton is a strong supporter of the United States armed forces. Over 30% of Melton employees are Veterans or reservists. At Melton, we help make the transition into civilian life as easy as possible.
