CDL Endorsements You Can Obtain

| Hazardous Materials (Hazmat) – H | Allows drivers to haul hazardous materials. |
| Tanker – N | Allows drivers to operate a tanker vehicle to transport liquids/gases. |
| Combination Hazmat/Tanker – X | Indicates a driver has both hazmat and tanker certifications. |

How Can I Obtain an Endorsement?
Depending on the endorsement you’re looking to get, there are usually a few steps involved, though the exact process can vary by state.
For all endorsements listed, you’ll be required to take a knowledge test at a licensing and exam office to prove you can safely handle the specialized vehicle/type of freight. Make sure to bring whatever ID and credentials your office requires in order to obtain the endorsement once you’ve passed. You’ll be charged a small fee, given a temporary license, and your updated CDL license with the new endorsement will be mailed out within a few weeks.
In some cases, you may take the P or S endorsement exam before you’ve obtained a CDL. In these cases, you’ll receive a Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP) upon completion of the exam, and can schedule a full drive test to earn your CDL after 14 days.
